EERIE MAGAZINE |
New terror tales in the Creepy tradition. Tonight I present Cousin Eerie, fictional host of Eerie Magazine which was launched by Warren Publications in 1966. The stories in the magazine were hosted by Cousin Eerie, a character created by comics legend Jack Davis. The first issue of Eerie was produced as an "ashcan" edition of only 200 copies, making it extremely sought after by collectors. Unlike its sister publication Creepy which featured mainly stand alone stories, Eerie featured on-going story lines with established lead characters. Eerie originally featured stories from the same stable of artists that contributed to Creepy. When Archie Goodwin resigned as editor of Eerie after Issue 11, due to a lack of funds, Warren was forced to publish reprints. Eerie, like its sister Creepy, began using Spanish artists from the Barcelona studio Selecciones Illustrada in 1971. Eerie ended in 1983 when Warren Publishing went into bankruptcy.
